Dina Williams

I am a mother, artist and teacher. I live in upstate New York with my husband John and our son Alex. I am the creator and facilitator of the "Relocating Our Roots" project. I was inspired by the experiences of my mother and grandmother, both of whom were single mothers. Looking back on their lives, I learned more about the financial difficulties they faced -- difficulties which single mothers continue to face despite the many years that have passed. The long history of poverty among single-parent families, including my own family, inspired me to investigate the way in which single mothers are excluded from many of the benefits of our capitalist society even while they contribute to it through their paid and unpaid work.
